I field this question a lot from patients wanting to time their treatments with weddings, vacations, or just to have their legs ready for summer. My answer varies according to what kind of cosmetic vein treatment you need, but in general you should allow at least 3 months from whatever time you hope to have your legs ready.

The first week after cosmetic sclerotherapy you should expect your legs to look slightly more irritated than they usually do. This is a good sign showing me that the medication is working inside the vein to start breaking the vessel down. Over the first 1-2 months the veins will gradually begin to appear lighter and less prominent. Often it is difficult to see a day to day change because the differences are so subtle. However, when comparing legs before treatment and a few months afterward patients usually see a very positive difference!

Cosmetic sclerotherapy is a process that can sometimes take several treatments depending on how extensive your spider veins are. Commonly, patients see fading in their spider veins after one treatment, but they opt for additional treatments to enhance the effects and truly watch their veins disappear.
